From 14 March to 12 April 2025
Galerie Les Yeux Fertiles, 27 rue de Seine, Paris 6e
Opening on Thursday 13 March 2025, 5 to 9 pm
Two singular artists.
Ursula Schultze-Bluhm (1921-1999), C’est moi Ursula ! (It’s Me, Ursula!) Paintings, drawings, boxes
Discovered by Jean Dubuffet in 1954 and included in the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, this self-taught artist nonetheless defies classification. Her poetic, even Surrealist works belong to “the automatism of mediums”, according to André Breton in the review La Brèche in 1961. At the gallery you will find works lent to the Museum Ludwig in 2023 for her major retrospective in Cologne, “That’s Me So What”.
A small souvenir of the major Ursula retrospective at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne in 2023, to which the gallery lent 5 works, with Andrew Russeth’s article in The New York Times of 16 May 2023, illustrated with Les deux gardiens, now at the gallery. Ursula took part in major exhibitions such as documenta in Kassel, and began making her assemblage-sculptures at the end of the 1950s.
“The image is lodged in my mind and waits to be released into the outside world, onto the canvas,” Ursula wrote.
